In professional laundry shops or dry cleaning shops, stain removal is one of the key links that affects the washing quality. Choosing and using stain removal tools approximately can improve the stain removal efficiency and protect the fabrics of clothes as much as possible. Kingstar has summarized the functional characteristics of common stain removal tools and suggestions for usage to help you master the “powerful tools” for stain removal and achieve efficient and safe operation.
With the combination of a spray gun head and a hose, the stain removal gun uses controllable air pressure to rinse or dry stains.
It has two types: hot gun and cold gun. The hot gun uses steam with a relatively high temperature, while the cold gun uses room-temperature tap water for gentler operation. The pressure can be flexibly adjusted according to the stain condition, fabric type, and distance.
● Hot gun
Advantages:
- Sometimes, the identification of stains can be done by smell. When a stain is just applied, the smell of the stain itself can be detected. The old stains’ smell is not obvious. Using a hot gun helps release the smell and distinguish between fresh stains and old stains.
- It is good for removing dry stains. The hot gun has a strong dissolving power for oil-soluble stains. It can moisten stains well and can accelerate the reaction of stain removal chemicals. Additionally, after removal, the residual stains and stain removers can be thoroughly rinsed off without leaving any marks.
In contrast, rinsing with a cold gun after dry chemical treatment takes relatively longer, has poor results, and easily leaves traces.
Disadvantages:
- Poor control of temperature
Poor temperature control can easily make wet stains or some stains in mixtures harder to remove, or even cause them to solidify into insoluble stains.
For example, fruit juice stains and tannic acid stains will darken when exposed to high temperatures, making them difficult to remove.
- Easy shrinkage and color fading
Improper use of a hot gun can easily make the textiles shrink or lose their colors. Wool, animal fibers, and some thick fleece fabrics easily shrink under high temperatures. Silk and some brightly colored fabrics with poor dye fastness tend to fade when treated with high temperatures.
● Cold gun
Advantage:
- The operation is safe and does not easily cause the stains to solidify or cause clothes to shrink and fade. It is especially suitable for wet stains (fruit juice, grass stains, and ink stains).
Advantage:
- For solidified stains or some stubborn stains, its effectiveness is limited.
When dealing with such solidified stains that remain after treatment, or when oxidation or reduction treatment is required, a hot gun should be used as needed.
Scraper
Scrapers are often used with stain removers for physical stain removal.
Mainstream materials: stainless steel, cow bone, and wood, and scraping should be done gently along the fabric grain.l
● Stainless Steel Scraper
Durable and corrosion-resistant, but improper operation may damage fabrics.
● Cow Bone Scraper
Its surface is smooth, and it doesn’t absorb chemicals. It is the most commonly used type. However, contact with strong acids, strong alkalis, and concentrated bleaches should be avoided.
● Wooden Scraper
It easily absorbs water and chemicals, develops burrs, and causes cross-contamination. (generally not recommended)
Brushes are mainly used for tapping to loosen stains instead of scrubbing. They must be used separately according to the nature of the stain remover to prevent chemical reactions that could damage clothes or render stain removal ineffective.
● Prepare two brushes
A black one is for dry stain removers, and a white one is for wet stain removers. During operation, people should keep the brush perpendicular to the fabric and tap up and down to loosen the stain. It should be remembered that cleaning the brush promptly after each use can avoid chemical residue.
● Operation recommendations and risk warnings
When using a hot gun, strictly control the temperature and spray distance, especially for sensitive fabrics such as silk and wool.
When using a scraper, maintain a certain tilt angle and avoid excessive force to prevent piercing the fabric.
Brushes must be used exclusively for dry or wet stain removers as categorized; clean them immediately after use to prevent cross-contamination from chemical solutions.
